It's well lit (although the lighting bug may be affecting them). The usual double platform with water to push the Golems into a killing chamber to kill and collect the items drops. As Hexalobular says, golems spawn in the area where the village center is calculated. So by controlling how the village is distributed you effect where the center will be and as long as the village doesn't change the golems will always spawn in the same 16X16 area at village center.
